Top 10 reasons you should discount Anti-Defamation League report

Statements

Though it bills itself as the protector of civil rights for all people, the ADL has a long history of questionable practices and actions that call into question the integrity of the organization and its current director, Abraham Foxman. Here are the Top 10 reasons why the ADL's smearing campaign should be taken with a grain of salt:

10. ADL Director Abraham Foxman forwarded Islamphobic propaganda when he opposed Park 51 mosque in New York City.

9. In a truly hypocritical turn of events, the ADL vilified long-time White House correspondent Helen Thomas and cost her the job she’d held for 50 years because comments she made about the occupation of Palestine, while publicly stating that comments made by Henry Kissinger when he was US Secretary of State about Soviet Jews being put in ‘gas chambers,’ did not sully his legacy.

8. In another hypocritical move, the ADL gave its Leadership Award to Rupert Murdoch, the owner of FOX News and the now defunct British newspaper ‘News of the World,’ which closed after it was caught illegally eavesdropping on people through hacking their cell phones.

7. The ADL tries to enforce censorship such as trying to stop the screening of the film ‘Miral’ at the United Nations in 2011 or forcing the Chicago Public Library to change an academically acclaimed reading list on the Middle East to include Zionist publications.

6. The ADL has worked against Affirmative Action, filing court briefs against the promotion of black prison guards in the New York.

 5. The ADL has a long history of spying on American citizens, dating back to the 1930s.

4. In 1993, federal agents raided the ADL’s West Coast offices and uncovered personal files – many of them obtained illegally -- on more than 2,000 private individuals and organizations such as the NAACP and the National Lawyers Guild.

3. The ADL “prides itself on its vast data collection” on groups and individuals with whom it does not agree, according to its 2009 annual report.

2. The ADL spends nearly half a million dollars per year lobbying Congress on Israel.

And the Number One reason why you should discount the ADL

1. With salary and benefits totaling nearly $700,000, ADL Director Abraham Foxman has a vested interest in leveling charges of anti-Semitism where none exist.
