AMP offers condolences to the families of the innocent victims of unacceptable violence

(CHICAGO 09/12/2012) – With heavy hearts the American Muslims for Palestine, a national grassroots organization, today offers condolences to the family of Ambassador Chris Stevens and three of his staff, all of whom were killed when people stormed the US embassy in Libya Tuesday. 

Stevens, the US ambassador to Libya, and his staff were innocent victims of the unacceptable violence that resulted from the release of an inflammatory trailer for the movie, “Innocence of Muslims.” AMP condemns the senseless violence and asserts that it is in no way sanctioned by Islam or by the examples of the way Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), the prophet of Islam, led his life. Indeed, Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) always reacted with wisdom and peace at those who persecuted him.

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton roundly condemned the violence, saying, “Violence like this is no way to honor religion or faith. And as long as there are those who would take innocent life in the name of God, the world will never know a true and lasting peace.” She also said the attackers did not represent the Libyan people or government and many Muslims were wounded defending the US compound. 

“The intention of many Islamophobic efforts such as this film is clearly to hurt relations between Americans and members of the Islamic world. We are heartened that President Barak Obama has clearly made the distinction between the perpetrators of the violence and the Libyan people and government,” said Dr. Osama Abu Irshaid, AMP national board member and editor of Al Mezan newspaper.
