Remembering Ayşenur Ezgi Eygi

AMP honors Ayşenur’s life and legacy while demanding justice and accountability for her killing.

Two years ago, on September 6, 2024, Israeli occupation forces (IOF) killed the 26-year-old American-Turkish activist, Ayşenur Ezgi Eygi, while she was protesting illegal Israeli settlement expansion and state-backed settler violence in the village of Beita near Nablus.

An Israeli occupation soldier shot Ayşenur in the head with an American-made M4 assault rifle while she stood near an olive tree. Occupation forces claimed that Ayşenur’s murder was “an accident.” This is a blatant lie continually laundered from the Israeli playbook. Ayşenur was unarmed and posed no threat when an Israeli soldier standing 200 meters away shot her in the head. Like the families of dozens, Ayşenur's family is still waiting for justice and accountability.

Ayşenur’s killing was the foreseeable consequence of decades of U.S.-enabled impunity, allowing Israeli forces and settlers to kill Palestinians and American citizens without consequence, or even the expectation of one. She is one of at least nine Americans killed in the West Bank by Israeli forces or settlers since 2022. From Nasrallah Abu Siyam to Shireen Abu Akleh to Ayşenur, the pattern is undeniable: lives are taken, investigations go nowhere, and those responsible face no meaningful consequences. So long as the U.S. refuses to impose accountability, there is little to deter the next killing.

Ayşenur had her whole life ahead of her. She was a University of Washington graduate who had just gotten married and was an active member of the International Solidarity Movement (ISM). Ayşenur dedicated her life to championing Palestinian human rights and speaking up for those oppressed.

AMP demands accountability for Ayşenur and the rest of the Americans murdered by Israel. The U.S. must end the impunity it provides to apartheid Israel and impose an arms embargo and sanctions for its blatant war crimes.
