AMP Stands In Grief and Solidarity with the Islamic Center of San Diego

Statements

Today, American Muslims for Palestine stands in grief and in solidarity with the congregation, staff, and families of the Islamic Center of San Diego (ICSD) and vehemently condemns the devastating act of violence that struck their community this morning. We are heartbroken by the loss of life, the injuries sustained, and the trauma inflicted upon a community of faith that has done nothing but serve, welcome, and uplift those around them. We extend our deepest condolences to all who have been affected, and we hold in particular the families of those killed, the survivors, and the children who witnessed today’s horror.

We stand firmly in support of Imam Taha Hassane, the mosque’s dedicated leadership, and the entire ICSD community. We are grateful for the Imam’s steady and compassionate presence in the immediate aftermath of today’s tragedy, and we condemn in the strongest possible terms the violence inflicted upon this sacred place of worship. While we are unsure of the suspects’ intentions, at a moment when Muslims across the country are already living through an alarming rise in Islamophobia, anti-Arab racism, and threats against our communities, this tragedy shakes the entire Muslim community. No community should ever have to fear for its safety while praying, teaching, or learning. An attack on the Islamic Center of San Diego is an attack on all of us who believe in a just, inclusive, and peaceful society.

Our bond with the Islamic Center of San Diego is not a recent one. For over a decade, ICSD and Imam Taha have been an indispensable partner in our work – a true beacon of compassion, civic engagement, and community service for the just cause of Palestine and so many other causes. Their congregation has stood beside us at every turn: providing volunteers, offering space, uplifting our mission, and modeling the very values of dignity and mutual care that drive our organization forward. The generosity and moral clarity of this community have made our work not only possible but more meaningful. We would not be who we are without them.

In the days and weeks ahead, we will continue to stand with the Islamic Center of San Diego in any way we can – in word, in presence, and in action. We urge our supporters, partners, and the broader community to reach out with messages of love, to show up, and to reject the hatred and fear that fuels such senseless violence – often instigated by politicians, Zionist groups, and law enforcement agencies. We ask that you keep the ICSD community in your prayers and, if you are able, offer your time, resources, or financial support as they begin the long road toward healing.

Together, we will not let grief, fear, or hatred be the final word.
