LEQAA KORDIA IS FREE!

News

Exactly a year ago, Leqaa Kordia was ripped away from her family and sent to an ICE prison in Texas. All of this because she protested Israel’s genocide in Gaza along with tens of thousands of her peers across the country.

In these last ten nights of Ramadan, many of us have prayed and advocated for Leqaa's release. And today, we are so happy to announce that Leqaa has finally been freed following a third court order. She finally gets to go home to her family.

This couldn’t have been possible without the advocacy of countless organizations, Leqaa’s legal team, and YOU. Time and time again, we are reminded of the importance of grassroots advocacy and how critical people power really is.

Though it shouldn’t have taken a year, the last few months saw a breakthrough in pressure for Leqaa’s freedom. For weeks, people across the country refused to stay silent. We made calls, sent emails, raised our voices, and demanded accountability. That collective pressure mattered. It reminded those in power that injustice does not go unnoticed, and that communities will continue to organize, mobilize, and fight until what is right prevails.

Today, Leqaa is free because a community refused to give up.

But our work does not end here; we will continue to push for accountability and safeguards so that no family has to endure this kind of injustice again, simply for exercising their constitutional rights to protest and speak out against it.

As we continue through these final sacred nights, this moment is a powerful reminder that our advocacy matters. When people come together with conviction and persistence, change becomes possible.
