Help AMP defeat the Visa Waiver bill! Urge your elected officials

A coalition of organizations, including the American Muslims for Palestine as part of the US Campaign to End the Israeli Occupation, has organized a congressional briefing on Capitol Hill on May 21, 2014, titled, "Israel's entry into the U.S. Visa Waiver Program: Examining discrimination against U.S. citizens."  The purpose is to educate legislators about Israel's discriminatory actions at points of entry against Americans of Palestinian and other Arab heritage and Americans of the Muslim faith.

We need you to contact your elected officials and urge them to attend this very important event!

Background:

In March 2013, Sens. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., and Roy Blunt, R-Mo., introduced the U.S. Israel Strategic Partnership Act of 2013, which would allow Israeli citizens to visit the United States for up to 90 days without a visa. Normally, countries participating in the Visa Waiver Program must extend the same privileges to Americans visiting their countries. But the Senate bill would exempt Israel from this requirement under the rubric of "national security."

Instead of condemning Israel’s actions and calling on embassies to do everything in their power to protect Americans, this legislation would legalize Israel’s racist immigration policies and routine discrimination.

In October 2010 after a 13-hour international flight, I was detained at the Tel Aviv airport, without food, water and any contact with the outside world for more than seven grueling hours. I was intimidated, threatened and asked to reveal passwords to my personal email accounts. Eventually, I was granted entry to Palestine. But my situation pales in comparison to what so many Palestinian Americans like Sandra Tamari endure. Sandra was also detained for several hours, called a 'terrorist,' jailed and deported back to the United States. Like so many Palestinian Americans, Sandra was deported and banned from entering her homeland.

legislatorsWe must defeat this bill. Please contact your elected officials today and urge them to attend the briefing on May 21!

Read the bios of briefing panelists.

Thank you!

P.S. – This kind of advocacy takes a lot of time and resources.  Help ensure the success of this congressional briefing by making a generous contribution today.
