Demand that BBC and Skynews Air Aid Appeal for Gaza!

Sky News, the British 24-hour news channel, has joined the BBC in deciding not to air an AID appeal for the people of Gaza, saying broadcasting it would amount to unbalanced reporting, according to published reports.

The appeal, put forth by the Disasters Emergency Committee, an umbrella organization for 13 charities, including the British Red Cross, hopes to raise funds to help alleviate the suffering in Gaza caused by Israel's three-week war on innocent civilians. The incessant bombings and air strikes killed nearly 1,400 Gazans and injured more than 5,000.

"Broadcasting an appeal for Gaza at this time is incompatible with our role in providing balanced and objective reporting of this continuing situation to our audiences in the UK and around the world," John Ryley, the head of Sky News, said Monday in a statement on the company's Web site.

The BBC, which announced its decision Jan. 22, has received more than 1,000 phone calls and 10,000 e-mails denouncing the company's refusal to air the appeal, according to CNN. The aid appeal was launched today on rival channels.
