Call on Egyptian officials to allow Viva Palestina to cross into Gaza with humanitarian aid

Egyptian riot police armed with water cannons have surrounded the Viva Palestina convoy today at the port of Al-Arish, according to convoy members.

International media are reporting of a stand-off between Viva Palestina volunteers and authorities.

“Our situation is now at a crisis point. Riot has broken out in the port of Al- Arish,” convoy leader Kevin Ovenden wrote in a statement. “We have now blocked the entrance to the port and we are now faced with riot police and water cannons and are determined to defend our vehicles and aid. The Egyptian authorities have by their stubbornness and hostility towards the convoy, brought us to a crisis point.”

(Palos Hills, IL 01/05/2009) – Egyptian riot police armed with water cannons have surrounded the Viva Palestina convoy today at the port of Al-Arish, according to convoy members.

International media are reporting of a stand-off between Viva Palestina volunteers and authorities.

Egyptian authorities have repeatedly thwarted the convoy’s efforts to enter Egypt with more than 400 volunteers and more than 250 vehicles laden with humanitarian supplies such as medicine and medical equipment.
