Pressure Egypt to keep Rafah border open for passengers and aid (2)

Statements

FREEDOM FLOTILLA BREAKS THE SIEGE

ACTION ALERT

(AMP, 6/3/2010) - In the wake of the Gaza Freedom Flotilla massacre, AMP is urging Egyptian authorities to answer growing international demands to end once and for all this four-year-long unfair and illegal siege on Gaza. The siege has come to an end but we must make sure this is permanent. Gazans deserve to live in dignity and honor. There is absolutely nothing that can legitimize this inhumane siege under which Gazans have lived for so long.

The siege has to come to an end but we must make sure this is permanent. Gazans deserve to live in dignity and honor. There is absolutely nothing that can legitimize this inhumane siege under which Gazans have lived for so long.

We, at American Muslims for Palestine (AMP), appreciate the latest Egyptian move to open the Rafah border and we need to thank the Egyptian government for this action. On the other hand we need to make sure that:

  • This is not only an instantaneous temporary reaction, but instead is a permanent, unending decision; and
  • The Rafah gates have to open for passengers, food, medicine,  and much-needed construction materials to rebuild thousands of destroyed homes and schools;

AMP believes this is an historic and strategic turning point that will affect the whole area and reshape the political map in the region. We urge Egypt, as the largest and most effective Arab state, to reassume its leading position and to reunite the entire nation to rally behind the just cause of Palestine. The day is now for Egypt to look after its own national interest.

The world is changing. The history of the region has now been written. Egypt and the whole Muslim umaa can’t just sit by and silently watch. We should be the authors of this next chapter in world history. AMP, along with 1.5 billion Muslims around the globe and millions of people who love peace and justice, believe that enough is enough. We can’t imagine seeing the Rafah gates locked again. AMP, along with the concerned international community, will hold Israel and Egypt accountable should the siege be imposed once again upon the already injured Gaza.

THE FREEDOM FLOTILLA HEROES DID NOT DIE AND SUFFER IN VAIN
We must show our gratitude to Egypt and urge the Egyptian government to keep the border open permanently and allow the free flow of passengers, all needed food and reconstruction supplies.
