3 ACTIONS YOU CAN TAKE TO STOP FRIEDMAN'S NOMINATION
Thanks to your efforts and the hundreds of phone calls you made to your senators, David Friedman barely squeaked by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee last week.
The 12-9 vote to pass Friedman’s nomination on to the full Senate is historic because it broke with past unanimous support of Israel. Several senators took a stand against Friedman and his extreme pro-settler stance. Even Ranking Member Sen. Ben Cardin, (D-MD), a staunch supporter of Israel, said he would not support the nomination because of Friedman’s “divisive, inflammatory, and offensive statements.” Sen. Cardin said Friedman could not “credibly” represent the United States.
The vote in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee was mainly along party lines. Only Democratic Senator Bob Menendez of New Jersey voted for Friedman.
Despite this, we know that Democratic opposition to Friedman is growing. Sen. Diane Feinstein, (D-Calif.), wrote in the San Francisco Chronicle that Friedman and his extremist rhetoric would “undermine” U.S. national interests. She said Friedman “rejects decades of bipartisan U.S. policy and international consensus toward the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.” She also wrote that Friedman’s positions are “dangerous.”
That’s why we need you to take action. Together, we can stop Friedman’s nomination from passing the Senate. There are multiple ways to can help!
