Protect Jerusalem: Friday, April 9, is national call-in day

(AMP 04/08/10) – As we commemorate the 62^nd anniversary of the Deir Yasin massacre at the hands of Zionist terrorists on April 9, marking the beginning of the Nakba and the dispossession of the Palestinians from Palestine, the American Muslims for Palestine (AMP) is turning the spotlight on Jerusalem to raise awareness about the daily injustices that are occurring there.

Since 1948, Israel has continued to ignore international law in its illegal occupation of Jerusalem. For more than 60 years, Israel has methodically worked to displace Palestinians from Jerusalem and to erase the historic Christian and Muslim significance of the city, which is sacred to members of all three faiths.

Since 1948, Israel has continued to ignore international law in its illegal occupation of Jerusalem. For more than 60 years, Israel has methodically worked to displace Palestinians from Jerusalem and to erase the historic Christian and Muslim significance of the city, which is sacred to members of all three faiths.

In the last several months, Israel has:

• Evicted several families from the Sheikh Jarah neighborhood so they can demolish the houses to make way for a Jewish-only park
• Enabled armed, illegal settlers to storm the Al Aqsa mosque compound along with military and police forces, resulting in injuries to dozens of Palestinians trying to protect Islam’s third holiest site
• Prohibited Christian Palestinians from entering Jerusalem for worship services on Easter Sunday
• Prohibited Muslim Palestinians from entering Jerusalem to pray at Al Aqsa
• Finished reconstruction of the Hurva synagogue, which some Jews said was the precursor to the destruction of Al Aqsa and the construction of the Third Temple in its place
• Desecrated burial sites of historic religious figures in Mamilla Cemetery to ironically make way for the Center for Human Dignity – Museum of Tolerance
• Declared plans to build an additional 1,600 illegal, colonial housing units despite a settlement freeze

These continuing illegal, unjust and provocative actions by Israel must not be tolerated. The United States gives Israel more than $5 billion per year in unconditional military aid, loan guarantees, grants and other aid. The U.S. can force Israel’s compliance with international law by threatening to withhold U.S. aid.

TAKE ACTION

Participate in National Call-In Day by calling President Barack Obama, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and your elected members of Congress.

• Demand the U.S. hold Israel accountable.
• Emphasize that continued U.S. support of Israel weakens our interests in the Arab and Muslim worlds and threatens our national security.
• Remind these policy makers they owe allegiance to Americans not Israel.
