Inaugural event for localized round-table meetings huge success

(CHICAGO 01/30/2012) – The inaugural event of the American Muslims for Palestine’s newest national campaign – the Palestine Chronicles – was an intimate and heartfelt discussion between activist Andrew Dalack of the United States Palestinian Community Network, and about 25 guests on Jan. 27 at AMP’s office in Palos Hills, IL.

While Dalack educated the attendees about solidarity activism, conversation veered toward the subject of coalition-building and whether it is ever permissible to work with Zionist organizations.

“We are protecting the Palestinian narrative,” Dalack told the crowd. “There are no circumstances in which a Zionist organization can stand in solidarity with Palestine.”

Successful coalition-building happens between groups that can agree on international law and human rights. They must also support the Palestinian right of return, the end to settlement construction, the end of the siege and the occupation, Dalack said, something Zionist organizations will not do.

“We were so happy to see the diverse viewpoints and hearty discussion,” said Fadi Sahouri, AMP-Chicago chapter chairman. “This is exactly what we were hoping for with this event.”

AMP’s goal is to hold a Palestine Chronicles program on the last Friday of every month in all AMP chapters nationwide. The speakers and venues will change each month, in an effort to reach as many different audiences as possible. Topics of discussion will be tied to current events in Palestine or within the American pro-Palestine activist movement.
