Action Alert: #AqsaUnderAttack

News

Ramadan is here, and with it is increased Israeli oppression. It’s no secret that Israeli forces ramp up their destructive tactics as Muslims begin celebrating their holy month. But one aspect often overlooked is the increasing attacks on Masjid Al-Aqsa.

In Ramadan of 2022, Israeli forces committed one of the most brutal attacks on Masjid Al Aqsa and the worshippers inside, injuring over 100 people. For decades, Israeli forces have consistently attacked worshippers inside Masjid Al-Aqsa during the holy month of Ramadan. By doing so, Israel’s goal has been to disturb the joy and sanctity of  Ramadan and to send a message to Palestinians that the occupying power controls the holy city.

background

In January 2023, Israeli government officials stormed Masjid Al-Aqsa. Since then, settler incursions into the Masjid Al-Aqsa compound, under the protection of Israeli forces, have been a near-daily occurrence. Despite decades of brutal occupation, the Palestinian people have remained steadfast, time and time again.

That’s why we at AMP decided to start this preemptive campaign to defend Masjid Al-Aqsa and the Palestinian people. On Saturday, we sent a policy memo asking the State Department to uphold international law and recognize Eastern Jerusalem as part of the Occupied West Bank and, therefore, not under Israel’s sovereign control. We provided them with policy recommendations ranging from reinforcing the status quo arrangement in the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound to ensuring that U.S. funding isn't used for acts of religious repression or incitement to violence.

Today, we are asking all our supporters to help build pressure by reaching out to their members of Congress and urging them to speak out in support of Palestinian worshippers and Palestinians impacted by Israeli violence and uplift our policy memo to the State Department.

It’s only the fifth day of Ramadan, but Israeli forces have already forced worshippers out of Masjid Al-Aqsa, attacked people around Bab Al Amoud, and burned a home in the village of Sinjil, forcing the family to flee in the middle of the night. The time for action is now.
