Stand up for Palestinian child prisoners by endorsing H.R. 4391

AMP joins the millions of Palestinians and their supporters around the world in celebrating the release of teen political prisoner Ahed Tamimi, who has become an important symbol of peaceful Palestinian resistance and resilience.

On this occasion, we remember the hundreds more Palestinian children who remain incarcerated in Israeli military detention. Today, we ask you to take action on their behalf by adding your name to endorse H.R. 4391, the "Promoting Human Rights by Ending Israeli Military Detention of Palestinian Children Act," the first-ever bill in U.S. Congress to support Palestinian rights.

Never failing to expose its ugly apartheid system of oppression and control of Palestinian lives, just yesterday, an Israeli court sentenced a young Palestinian woman, Dareen Tatour, a poet, to 5 months in prison for her poem entitled "Resist my people, resist them," and related social media posts. Tatour, who is an Israeli citizen, was arrested in 2015, has already served three months in prison and has been under house arrest for nearly three years.

The release of Ahed Tamimi also coincides with the arrest and deportation of two Italian artists and solidarity activists whose only "crime" was to paint a mural of Ahed on the Apartheid Wall in occupied Bethlehem. Another two Palestinian graffiti artists were also arrested.

Finally, as we watch with horror the separation of immigrant parents from their children at the U.S. border, many of us were similarly outraged by the viral images of Palestinian journalist, Lama Khater, embracing her distraught three-year-old son who watched in terror as Israeli soldiers arrested his mother in a dawn raid. Of course, these shared inhumane policies come as no surprise given the training U.S. police and border patrol receive by Israeli forces.

For Palestinians under military occupation, there is no freedom of speech or expression or safety and security for children who are routinely rounded up, kidnapped from their parents, tortured, and detained. Our U.S. tax dollars must not support these criminal practices and together we must work to end it.
