(CHICAGO 02/13/2011) -- Awad Hamdan, national programs director for the American Muslims for Palestine, spoke before an intimate gathering of Episcopalian Christians on Feb. 12 in Chicago. The purpose was to give the group a first-hand account of a Palestinian’s experience dealing with Israel’s occupation of Palestine.

The program was part of the Christian campaign “Steadfast Hope: the Palestinian Quest for a Just Peace ,” a 48-page book, challenges common myths and misperceptions about the origins of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, presents a compelling snapshot of the present situation on the ground, and offers a guide to the challenges that lie ahead in the quest for peace.
“Several Christian denominations are focusing on Palestine, centered on Steadfast Hope,” Hamdan said. “It is important for Muslims to become engaged in this process, especially as both the Presbyterian and Methodist churches’ national assemblies will be voting on proposals to divest from Israel this year.”
