AMP denounces latest IOF murders of Palestinians in Gaza

ACTION ALERT

(CHICAGO 03/22/2011) – The American Muslims for Palestine (AMP), a national grassroots organization educating Americans about Palestine, strongly condemns the murders Tuesday of eight Palestinians – including three children – in Gaza by Israeli Occupation Forces in a series of airstrikes. AMP also denounces Israeli officials, who have called for military action similar to Operation Cast Lead, Israel’s three-week assault in December 2008 and January 2009 that killed 1,419 Palestinians in Gaza and wounded more than 5,300.

Tzipi Livni, leader of Israel’s opposition party Kadima, on Saturday called for massive military actions against Gaza. This comment echoes Zionist racist ideology that purports Arabs only understand violence.  "The right way to deal with it is with force, just like Israel did during and after Operation Cast Lead," the news website Ynet quoted Livni as telling local authority heads in the border region, according to Ma’an News Agency.

The airstrikes began on Monday; more than 30 people also have been injured.

At least four rounds of assaults have rained down on Gazans today. Earlier, in a strike near Gaza City, four people – including three children - were killed, according to published reports. Thirteen members of one family also were wounded in the attack.

An attack on the Az-Zaitoun neighborhood, south of Gaza City, killed four young men, news reports say.

Israeli military officials say the bombardments are in response to homemade resistance rockets being fired from Gaza. This bogus claim completely obscures the fact that the Israeli military has killed more than 100 Palestinians since the end of Operation Cast Lead. In the first seven months of 2010 alone, 47 Palestinians – mostly farmers tending to their fields – have been killed in the so-called buffer zone inside the Apartheid Wall. The claim also ignores the continuation of Israel’s brutal blockade that has deprived the Palestinians of their legally guaranteed right to quality of life and adequate standard of living, to freedom of movement, access to medical care and to education.

As people throughout the Middle East struggle for self-determination, liberty and democracy, it is incumbent upon the United States to bring full pressure to bear on Israel and to hold it accountable for its frequent human rights abuses in Palestine.

AMP demands that Israel ends the occupation of Palestine; ceases all settlement construction; frees all political prisoners; and ends the siege on Gaza.

AMP calls on President Barack Obama and members of Congress to withhold U.S. foreign aid to Israel until it complies with international law and ends the occupation.

TAKE ACTION

Call the White House and your elected representatives and demand they halt the United States’ unconditional support of Israel.

TALKING POINTS

Israel continues to break international law with impunity.

The United States’ unconditional support of Israel weakens our standing in the Arab and Muslim worlds and harms our national security.

The siege on Gaza, settlement construction and the occupation all are illegal. The U.S. should withhold foreign aid until Israel complies with international law and ends the above illegal activites.

Demand they pressure Israel to stop the attacks on Gaza.
