Omar Suleiman: It's time to mobilize for Jerusalem - support AMP's critical work
When Donald Trump proclaimed Jerusalem as the capital of Israel earlier this month, I, like many of you, quickly sprang into action. Two days later, I was proud to join AMP and hundreds of protesters for Jum‘ah prayer and an emergency rally for Jerusalem in front of the White House. The message we conveyed was simple: The struggle for justice in Palestine remains a central issue for Muslim Americans and all people of conscience.
As I told fellow worshippers during my Friday sermon, Jerusalem historically has been a place of safety for people of all faiths, and where many of our greatest prophets and messengers walked. It was the original qibla to which Muslims directed their prayers, and where the Prophet Muhammad (S) traveled in his divine journey. Palestine is a place from which many of us draw our history, and it is incumbent upon us to protect its sanctity and its native inhabitants who are being ethnically cleansed and their identity erased.
We must continue to advocate for this noble cause and support dignity, equality, and freedom for the Palestinian people.
For over a decade, AMP has been a leader in the fight for justice in Palestine — which is why I’m writing you today to ask that you support its critical work and make your year-end, tax deductible gift today.
Just last week, thousands of you bused into Washington, D.C. to assert your equal claim to Jerusalem and to Palestine. But, while people power and demonstrations are crucial mechanisms of direct action, we also need to organize at the legislative level to shift U.S. policy toward one of justice and equality for Palestinians.
In March, AMP will bring more than 150 young leaders, activists, and chapter partners from around the country to the nation’s capital for its annual Palestine Advocacy Day. Following a weekend intensive focused on lobbying and political engagement, the delegation plans to meet with the offices of 90 Members of Congress. This worthwhile initiative is crucial to advance advocacy work for Palestine, to expose our lawmakers to an alternative narrative, and to combat anti-BDS legislation at home and apartheid, occupation, and devastation in Palestine.
But AMP can’t do this without your help. This organization relies on generous donations from supporters like you to sustain its work. As the Trump administration continues undermining Palestinian rights, this is a critical time to push to change the narrative—and policy—on Palestine. Make your tax-deductible donation before the year ends. Please invest in the next Palestine advocate today!
Join me today in supporting the only Muslim organization in the U.S. working exclusively on the issue of Palestinian rights. Resisting injustice and oppression is an integral part of our obligations toward God and humanity.
