Local libraries recipients of several books on Palestine and the Middle East

(PALOS HILLS, IL 08/17/09) – American Muslims for Palestine (AMP) on Thursday will donate its first set of books about Palestine to libraries in Bridgeview and Palos Heights. The hand-deliveries will be the kick-off of a multi-year campaign to place sets of books in thousands of libraries across the country.

So far more than 30 libraries from California to New Jersey have committed to placing the volumes in their collections, where they will be circulated on a regular basis.

“The public library project is in keeping with our mission to educate the American public about issues pertaining to Palestine,” said Munjed Ahmed, AMP vice chairman. “These books are a cross section of authors, topics and genres. They will give the reader a very good foundational understanding of the conflict in the Middle East, particularly as it relates to Israel’s illegal occupation of Palestine.”

Authors of the nine books include Israeli historian Ilan Pappe, former Time magazine Middle East bureau Donald Neff, and Professors Rashid Khalidi and the late Edward Said, among others. Topics range from politics and history to the memoirs of a Palestinian doctor living in Israel.

AMP plans to have the books placed in 100 libraries by the end of the year. However, it is a rolling project and will continue indefinitely.

The American Muslims for Palestine is a national grassroots organization whose mission is to educate the American public and media about issues relating to Palestine and its rich cultural heritage. For more information or to make a donation, call 888.404.4AMP.
