ACLU fighting Anti-BDS bill in Senate

News

The ACLU has written to US senators requesting they do not sign onto S. 720, also known as the Israel Anti-Boycott Act. The bill would criminalize actions related to BDS. People would be punished for their political beliefs. Even asking for information about BDS could result in fines from $250,000 to $1 million and/or prison.

We must defeat this bill, which infringes on the First Amendment protection of speech -- including political speech. Call your senators and ask them to reject this bill. Find their numbers at www.govtrack.us.

The ACLU wrote to members of the Senate to urge them to oppose and refrain from co-sponsoring the Israel Anti-Boycott Act (H.R. 1697/S. 720). The impacts of the legislation would be antithetical to free speech protections enshrined in the First Amendment and we urged members to oppose the legislation in the absence of significant revisions

Please call your senators and ask them to reject S. 720 because it infringes on First Amendment rights of free speech, which includes BDS, and because it punishes people for their political beliefs. Find your senators' contact information at www.govtrack.us
