Call your senators and ask them to vote NO on Friedman

(WASHINGTON DC 03/10/2017) – In a 12-9 vote that went mostly along party lines, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee voted to approve the nomination of David Friedman as U.S. ambassador to Israel on Thursday. The issue will not go before the full Senate for a final vote.

All Democrats on the committee, except New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez voted against the nomination. Ranking member Ben Cardin of Maryland told the committee he would not be able to support the nomination because of Friedman’s “divisive, inflammatory, and offensive statements,” saying he could not “credibly” represent the United States.

Friedman, who has served as President Trump’s bankruptcy lawyer for 15 years, is the president of a pro-settler organization that funds settlement expansion in the West Bank. Friedman also has donated to an extremist settler organization that funds the relocation of Israeli Jews to the Muslim Quarter in East Jerusalem, further expanding Israel’s policies to cleanse Palestinians from Jerusalem. Friedman supports annexing the West Bank into Israel and moving the U.S. embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, all efforts that contravene 50 years of U.S. policy in the region.

Based on the foreign relations committee’s vote, it is clear Israel is fast becoming a partisan issue in Congress.
