Job Opening: Advocacy Director


American Muslims for Palestine (AMP) is looking for a skilled and experienced advocate to move the needle on Capitol Hill on the issue of Palestinian rights. The person hired will engage in frequent direct lobbying and work to strengthen AMP’s grassroots advocacy infrastructure. They will successfully advocate with governmental decision makers utilizing a diversity of tactics to uphold and advance Palestinian rights. 


Duties include, but are not limited to:

* Develop the vision, strategy, and annual plan for AMP's advocacy work;

* Cultivate relationships with key policymakers and influencers in Washington, DC, and represent AMP in meetings with the US Congress and other US government agencies; 

* Provide rapid policy analysis to Congress through policy briefs, one-­pagers, conference calls, and one-on-one meetings;

* Assist organizational leadership in leading the annual lobby day (Palestine Advocacy Days);

* Cultivate and nurture relationships with local member chapters around advocacy work;

* With organizational leadership, coordinate and execute rapid response strategies and tactics to deal with urgent developments of concern to AMP;

* Develop and maintain relationships with allies and constituencies to develop creative and collaborative advocacy strategies to advance AMP’s mission.


* 3 years of experience in advocacy, campaigning, or communications.

* Experience working on Capitol Hill.

* Excellent writing skills.

* Demonstrated experience writing action alerts, policy briefs, and other advocacy tools.

* Experience convening and working within coalitions.

* Expert-level familiarity with the Palestinian struggle for human rights required.

* Arabic language skills preferred but not required. 

Salary is commensurate with experience.
