(AMP 6/5/2010) – The Rachel Corrie, a Freedom Flotilla vessel that set sail from Ireland, was commandeered in international waters early this morning by Israeli military. The ship was forced to dock in the Israeli port of Ashdod, where passengers were arrested and detained, according to published reports.

This latest illegal seizure of a sovereign vessel in international waters comes just a few days after Israeli commandoes shot at close range and killed nine passengers – including American Furkan Dogas - on the Turkish humanitarian aid ship, the Mavi Marmara.
The American Muslims for Palestine (AMP) strongly condemns in the harshest possible terms Israel’s latest illegal attempt to block shipments of humanitarian aid to the besieged people of Gaza. Boarding and commandeering ships in international waters is against international maritime law, something the world is allowing Israel to violate with impunity.

Call President Barack Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and demand they pressure Israel to release the detained activists. Also demand that Israel break the siege of Gaza and end the occupation of Palestine.
