Dial the first 8 numbers listed above then add 6 digits of your choosing. That should connect you to a family in Gaza. If you don’t get connected at first, try with a different combination of 6 digits. Once you reach a family, introduce yourself and relay a message of support, reaffirming to the family that their brothers and sisters in the United States have not forgotten them and that we are speaking up on their behalf.
  • Contacting members of Congress and ask them to demand Israel lift the siege on Gaza. Find your member of Congress by clicking on this link: http://capwiz.com/adc/directory/congdir.tt
  • Organize events on Gaza. Call AMP to arrange for speakers, materials or for a packaged lecture and video. Call 708.598.4267.

Use the following suggestions for a speech or contact AMP for a prepared PowerPoint presentation.

Talking points could include:

  1. The United Nations says the siege amounts to collective punishment, which is in violation of international law.
  2. More than 360 people have died since the siege began in 2007 because they don’t have access to adequate medical care.
  3. The siege prohibits the import of construction materials so one year after Operation Cast Lead, the Palestinians of Gaza cannot rebuild. Their homes, water treatment plants and electricity power stations are all in ruins.
  4. At least 90 percent of the Palestinians of Gaza are living in poverty.
  5. Unemployment tops 50 percent.
  6. It is our duty to speak out about the inhumane and unjust nature of the siege.
  7. It is our duty to call our elected officials and demand they urge Israel to lift the siege.
